Environmental Conservation:
Under this component the project finances activities earmarked to address environmental degradation in the project area and promote sustainable management of natural resources.  The component intends to reverse the land degradation process that is currently taking place in the project area through a combination of measures to promote better management of natural resources by communities following which there would be improvement on people’s livelihood.
The activities includes :

  • Establishment of tree nurseries,
  • Protection and restoration of wetlands and river banks;
  • Rehabilitation of hilltops;
  • Promotion of efficient technologies in fuel usage;
  • Stabilization of road embankments;
  • Management of the Mt. Kenya ecosystem;
  • Protection of communities from wildlife and rehabilitation of National Parks and forest reserves.
